Bilal has been a professional writer, performer, and director in Chicago since 2000. He is a current ensemble member of Lifeline Theatre in Chicago, and an ensemble alumnus and former Artistic Director of acclaimed performance art troupe The Neo-Futurists, where he wrote and performed in their long-running late-night show Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind from 2004 to 2016. Notable other plays include Contraption and The Sovereign Statement (Jeff Award nomination: Best New Work) for The Neo-Futurists, as well as Redeemers and The Man Who Was Thursday (Jeff Award nomination: Best New Work — Adaptation) for New Leaf Theatre. He is a regular contributor and combatant within Chicago “live lit” events The Paper Machete and Write Club. Bilal is also an audio drama writer, scripting episodes for the productions PleasureTown and Unwell.
