From the New York Times this morning:
“Separately, the fertility rate in the U.S. hit a record low for a second straight year. Demographers are trying to figure out what’s driving the deep decline that began in 2008.”
Yeah, I don’t know. Why would American citizens be having fewer children after nearly eight years of terrorism and war; a wretched, flailing healthcare paradigm; rising barriers to higher education; the collapse of the housing and job markets; and the outright butchery of pensions and retirement funds with freshly sharpened knives being pointed towards social security? What mysterious mass hypnosis could have made them decide against taking on the rigorous emotional and financial responsibilities of caring for a new life and providing for that life’s future welfare and independence?
It’s baffling, is what it is.
