Miscellaneous Mental Musings of an Emerging Artist

Modes, Medians, and Meanness.

Let me make sure I understand this correctly.

If the child is not currently an American citizen, the Republican Party at large seems perfectly comfortable with having them suffer any or all of the following:

  • Raids upon homes, parks, and other spaces by disorganized squads of thugs looking to apprehend and deport them and their families
  • Indefinite incarceration in overcrowded, subhuman conditions
  • Malnutrition and poor hygiene within those facilities
  • Separation from their parents or other family members with no assurances of ever seeing them again
  • Requirements that they undergo federal court proceedings and legal processes that they are too young to fully understand
  • Death through exposure, drowning, illness, or other tragedies borne of a desperate attempt to escape a dangerous region
  • Death through violence for those who were unable to escape that dangerous region in time

If the child currently isĀ an American citizen, the Republican Party at large seems perfectly comfortable with having them suffer any or all of the following:

  • Inadequate access to healthcare or food
  • Underfunded public education
  • Ill-maintained civic infrastructure
  • Regular drills that simulate an attack by a maniac whom they are unwilling to prohibit from purchasing an arsenal of firearms
  • Death or loss of loved ones to random gun violence in practically any place, time, or situation
  • Lack of accountability when law enforcement murders or unjustly incarcerates them or their loved ones
  • Sexual abuse and trafficking by their jet-setting donors or their candidates for higher office

Regardless of their citizenship, the Republican Party at large seems to have little interest in preserving or improving the increasingly fragile condition of the planet upon which those children will have to try and survive long after the jowly knock-off lordlings of said cabal have shuffled along, smiling with satisfaction in their ivory linens as they muse on how much pain they personally avoided.

The only trauma they seem passionate about protecting children from experiencing is their exposure to LGBT persons, which is not in fact a trauma at all. I’m certain that many of them would also claim that they are invested in protecting children from being aborted in utero, but even if one were willing to concede to their framing that a fetus is to be considered a child — which I am not — one would yet again be compelled to ask why they fight so hard for any child to be born into a world where their party is willing to tolerate, facilitate, and justify all of the other traumas listed above.
